June 20, 2022 in Harrisburg, Illinois

As I mentioned in my last post, today I was in the support truck. The 4:30 am wake-up was not bad at all, except for having to pack my wet laundry into my bag.

The host in Owensboro brought us donuts, and they were quite good with a banana and a coffee from Sonic (we stopped on the road).

Lorelei, my teammate who was driving the truck, and I listened to music really loudly and ate road trip snacks all day. For lunch, we sat in the back of the truck and ate taco meat and rice straight out of plastic bags using green bell peppers as spoons, and I think that sums up meals at Bike and Build pretty well.

We also decided to trail our riders over a bridge which was also a hill, because we could make sure if they needed to stop or something went wrong the cars behind them wouldn't get too close. We blasted music for them and it was really cool to see them from the perspective of the truck. We also got to see everyone cross the state line!

The only downfall of truck days is that they are very, very long. We are the first to leave and the last to come back to the host. Once we had arrived, it was already time for showers and dinner.

Our host took us out for dinner at a local Mexican restaurant! It was our first restaurant trip together, and the food was very good. I had chicken fajitas and lemonade.

After dinner, we all drove about a half an hour away to Shawnee State Park and hiked up to an overlook. By the time we got there, it was almost completely dark, but we could see the ends of the sunset and the most stars I have ever seen in my life.

We didn't get back to the host until about 10:30, so I was too tired to write my blog and went straight to bed!

The plan for today is to paint a house in town in the morning and when it starts to get too hot head to the host's pool. We might also go back to Shawnee for the sunset. I think if we'd arrived about an hour earlier it would've been perfect, so I hope we go back.

We're riding to Carbondale tomorrow–– more on that later!

Sounds like that was a wonderful day. And kind of a break for you on the bike. You’ve gotten to do some really look stuff I’m jealous.
