July 7, 2022 in Lamar, Colorado

As you can tell by my title, today I completed my first-ever 100 (and a half) mile ride!! And the verdict on the saddle: life changing.

I am beyond exhausted–– for obvious reasons –– but here's the lowdown of my ride.

The team woke up at 4 this morning, but was ready so quickly we had to sit and wait for an hour for the sun to rise! That was kind of annoying, because we could have spent that time sleeping. I hope in the future the sunrise is taken into consideration for our wake up time, but c'est la vie.

I rode with Eliza and Bry today, and the first 50 miles went by super quickly. We did mini rundowns of our entire lives to get to know each other better, sang girl scout songs, and passed the time quickly.

First lunch had Klondike bars, which were fantastic, and I also had a delicious wrap.

The next 17 miles went well too because we had almost made it to the Kansas-Colorado state line! Of course, we stopped for pictures there with some friends.

At second lunch, around mile 82, we loaded up on protein bars and extra gatorade and water, then set off for the last leg of our journey.

That last leg was HARD. I wasn't in pain, but my body had been moving for about 7 hours at that point, and it just didn't want to move anymore.

And, as one might expect, after 7 hours on a bike you start to loose your mind a little, so we put on a concert featuring everything from Christmas songs, to Disney, to that Schoolhouse Rock song that names all the states.

About a half mile before we got to our host, we stopped in at the Colorado Visitor Center for my friends to get some postcards.

It was such a wonderful feeling of triumph to see my odometer hit 100–– I truly wasn't sure I could do it.

It was Bry and Eliza's first 100-miler too, so we all were ecstatic to reach the host and take freezing hose showers. Once again, my hose shower was fantastic. They're very underrated.

My teammate Zoe had found a donation for our dinner tonight, so I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and salad. I also may have had a bowl of lucky charms as an appetizer. It hit the spot like you wouldn't believe.

Now, I'm wrapping up an early night catching up on blogs and calling Jonathan. I can't wait to lay down and sleep!
