July 10, 2022 in Pueblo, Colorado

Today set a record–– the hottest day Pueblo had seen in years: 107 degrees and SO SUNNY. Although I'm glad I wasn't on my bike for that, it was still pretty difficult to stand at a build site.

Today's build partner, Neighborworks of Southern Colorado, actually made us breakfast at their headquarters! I had my first bagel in weeks, blueberry with cream cheese and local honey, and scarfed down plenty of fruit and coffee. It was stupendous.

After we'd finished eating, we sat around the breakfast table and learned about the inner workings of the organization before heading out to a local house to clean up their yard.

We weeded for five straight hours, no exaggeration. Predictably, there's not too much to say about that, beyond that it was fun at first and grueling soon after.

We also had a neighbor from across the way come over and yell at us for "ruining the neighborhood" which was strange, but the build site manager handled it.

Once we'd finished up at that house, we moved on to another neighborhood which also needed some weeding done. By that point, I was just about ready to burn the weeds to the ground and stomp on them, but I am a very good sport so off we went.

After almost 2 hours there, we decided to break for lunch. Our build site manager took us to a local Only Chicago pizza, but I got a grilled chicken sandwich.

After lunch, to all of our dismay, we remembered that we still had another 2 hours of work to do. I lost my phone (and then remembered I had lent it to someone), we pulled more weeds, and at last headed back to the host for showers.

I spent my evening folding my laundry, organizing my brain, and getting ready for my dad to visit in a few days! I can't wait!

Livvy, so good to know that you are proficient at pulling weeds! I will save a nice little bunch just for you. Only kidding! 😊 It sounds like it was a very long day in the hot sun for you and your teammates. You’re right, you are a good sport! Riding with your dad at your side for a day or two is going to be awesome. We’ll be thinking of you with smiles on our faces! ❤️
